North Core Studios is a supportive housing residence serving adult who were formerly homeless with histories of substance abuse and/or non-AXIS 1 diagnosis. The residential studios consist of a furnished living/sleeping room with a kitchenette containing a
stove, microwave and refrigerator; and a full bath. Each unit also has air conditioning and an intercom telephone. Utilities are also included.

The building is handicapped accessible, equipped with an elevator. A security-recording camera in addition to a trash compactor is located on each floor. On the first floor, in addition to the lobby reception area where the security booth is located, there is a fully equipped kitchen, on-site laundry facility, community room, computer center/library, and staff offices. The agency provides 24-hour security and recording cameras are situated throughout the building (interior and exterior). All applicants must be over 18 years or older, formerly homeless, with a history of substance abuse and able to live independently and manage their own affairs.

A variety of services are available in the residence to assist the residents in building their lives. Services include:

Case Management –

A comprehensive assessment of each tenant is conducted to identify all benefits to which residents are entitled. The case manager works with the client and other agencies involved to ensure that residents receive all benefits and become engaged in services to assist them to make progress toward service goals.

Substance Abuse Counseling –

Services to assist residents to address substance abuse problems are available both on and off site.

Vocational Counseling/Job Development –

Employment assessment and referrals are conducted regularly. Progress is monitored to ensure adjustment.

Other Services –

Other on-site services include: Relapse prevention group AA meetings Employment workshop Domestic Violence Education workshop Health and Nutrition workshop Computer and reading classes Other services as needed.

Criteria for Admission –

Applicants for 34 of the 56 units must meet the following criteria: 18 years or older, formerly homeless, with a history of substance abuse, not including AXIS 1 diagnosis. All applicants must be able to live independently and manage their own affairs. The rest of the apartments are rented to community residents, not necessarily meeting the above criteria.
